Discombra

We composed this piece for a collaboration with choreographer Erin Bomboy. She made a project called The Public Decides for which she solicited 5 minute compositions. The five that she selected were presented with identical choreography. The audience was then asked to vote for the piece that they felt worked best with the choreography.

We used this as a chance to explore our voice & electronics style by repurposing a song by GF Handel. We'll be expanding Discombra into a polished work, and may use it as the seed for an entire album... time will tell.

Excavations

Excavations was created in collaboration with choreographer Emily Lawrence while she was teaching at Kenyon College. This piece uses video cameras to track dancers' motion and generate sound in reaction to the action.

This is my second soundscore for Ashley A Friend, composed for her performance at the Joyce SoHo Theater in NYC. We explored a lot of concepts for this project, including geography, communication, nature, and our relationship with our respective art forms. The soundscore weaves sampled sounds into ambient and minimalist textures that question what it means to compose.

In late 2009 I was invited to create music for a dance concert at Brooklyn College that was to be a part of their Biannual International Electroacoustic Music Festival. The choreographers (B. Artis Smith and Germaine Salsberg) were creating a series of short pieces inspired by different birds. I created music for Raven and Mockingbirds. Fragments of Figments (Elucidated)

Formerly titled Lifedance, this soundtrack for dance by Amiti Perry (OSU Department of Dance) explores interpretation of one's life experiences as dance. Each performer in the company has created movements relating events from their own lives, which Amiti incorporated into the larger whole. The music parallels this concept by taking existing songs and sounds in some way significant, cutting them apart, and reassembling the pieces into a soundtrack collage.
