Some Assembly Required

I was thrilled to have my music included on Jon Nelson's Some Assembly Required radio show on several occasions. Before his final episode he put out a call of 50-second works for a special CD he was making. I wrote two pieces for him, using samples of his voice. In the end he decided not to include any pieces that sampled his show on the compilation, but he did play a couple of them on his final show.

Even though he was one of music's great conservatives, it is often (and rightly) remarked that J.S. Bach was a great cosmopolitan—in his music the north countries meet southern Germany, France, and Italy in striking ways previously almost unknown. In the Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 582, Bach joins together elements from distinct nations and traditions in ways that may be heard very close to the musical surface indeed.

Tonight on 60x60

Tonight on 60x60 was composed as a tribute to 60x60 and as a thank you to Robert Voisey who works so hard on the behalf of so many composers. The samples are taken from the first 60x60 CD and from a certain television news magazine show.

Banal Blast

Banal Blast is my submission to 60x60 in 2009. I wanted to create an energetic track that could function as a transition within the larger mix. It was selected for the 2009 International Mix, which was presented many times in the United States and abroad (including as part of 60x60 Dance and 60x60 Video.)

My submission to 60x60 in 2012. This composition builds a complex beat one layer at time. The title is a reference to the supposed apocalypse coming at the end of 2012.

In late 2009 I was invited to create music for a dance concert at Brooklyn College that was to be a part of their Biannual International Electroacoustic Music Festival. The choreographers (B. Artis Smith and Germaine Salsberg) were creating a series of short pieces inspired by different birds. I created music for Raven and Mockingbirds.
